Macca Contest ~ Sir Paul comes to Edmonton

7 Nov

A few months ago my husband came home from work and shared some news with me. He had heard that Paul McCartney, for the first time ever, was going to be coming to Edmonton to play a show.

To say that I would like to see him play is an understatement. When I think about Paul McCartney, and of course The Beatles, it brings up some very sentimental memories. My dad and I bonded over the music of The Beatles. When I was young he would lull me to sleep with “Golden Slumbers.” He would entertain me by singing silly songs like “Yellow Submarine,” and “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da”. When my best friend came over to play he would get out his guitar and sing “Michelle” (my friend’s name is Michele). My dad taught me how to play the guitar and the first song I learned was, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” As I got older, my love for The Beatles grew and my bond with my dad continued to grow. We would stay up late hammering on our guitars and singing loudly “OH DARLING!” and then softer “A Day in The life”. When I entered a local pageant to be an ambassador for our small town, my talent was supposed to be dancing. At the last minute I hurt my ankle. Dad said, “Well get out the guitar and play some Beatles!” and I did…in a shaky little voice I got up there and sang, “I will”. By this point my room was adorned with Beatles posters, I pretty much had a love for anything British. When I met my future husband and went over to his house, the first thing I saw when I walked into his room was a Beatles poster on the wall. I knew I was in the right place!

Alas the tickets to Paul McCartney’s show sold out in minutes flat…and even if they didn’t the price was way more than I could afford. I would have loved to bring my dad out here to see the show with me. It would have been such a wonderful memory for the both of us! Upon reading the newspaper the other day I learned that there was still hope! A contest, yes!! The idea of the contest is to make a picture and put Paul somewhere in Edmonton. This is such a fun idea! I have made two entries, but I need your help to pick the best one!

Edmonton Journal ~ Paul McCartney Photo Contest – here is a link to the contest if you would like to take a look.

Entry number 1: This was my husband’s idea. Paul McCartney on the Quesnell bridge. If you live elsewhere you will likely not get the humour. This bridge was under construction for so long, and finally fninished a year behind schedule. It was a running joke locally. Here it is:

Entry Number 2: This was my idea, it is Paul involved in various sporting events in our city:

So I am going to take a few days to mull it over and decide which one I like best. Please leave your feedback and let me know what you think!!! With your help I JUST might be able to have that magical moment with my dad!

Update:  I entered the first picture, Paul in the construction crew.  I did not win.  In fact, they posted a lot of the entries online for people to see, and mine was not even included.  Sigh, oh well!

Thanks for stopping by!
